Brazilian cress
Spilanthes fusca, syn. Acmella oleracea
Annual. A condiment and medicinal plant that numbs the mouth. The plant contains spilanthol, which acts as an analgesic. Fresh, sparkling flavor. 35 cm high, slightly creeping. Dark green oval foliage, conical flowers without petals, yellow with a red center. Edible leaves, buds and flowers, use fresh or dried. Also known as: paracress, buzz buttons, ting flowers toothache plant, electric daisy. Widely used in Southeast Asia.
Sow indoors in early May. Do not cover seeds, requires light to germinate. Transplant after any risk of frost. 25 cm between plants.
Germination: 70% in November 2024
