Chilean tarweed
Madia sativa
Annual. 20 cm to 1 meter high. Plant covered with a sticky resin that gives off a strong odor. Cultivated for its oil seeds. Makes a quality edible oil, also used in soap making. It is a fodder plant appreciated by sheep. Yellow flower. Indigenous to North and South America.
Full sun to part shade. Well drained soil. Sow directly outside after the last frost or 2 to 4 weeks before. 6 mm deep. 30 cm between plants.
Germination: 80% in November 2023
