Description

Hot pepper Cayenne Chocolate
Capsicum annuum

Hot pepper, much milder than other Cayenne varieties (strength 1 to 3). Changes from green to chocolate brown. 1 cm wide and 12 cm long. Tasty. Excellent dried. Makes exceptionally flavorful paprika. Plant height 75 cm, very productive and early. 78 days.

Full sun, well drained and rich soil. Sow indoors 10 to 14 weeks before the last frost. Transplant when temperature is above 10°C. 6 mm deep. 40 cm between plants. Germinates in 7 to 10 days at 28-30°C.

Germination: 82% in November 2025
Ecological seeds produced at Catherine’s Ornamental Garden.

Note
The Cayennes we tested were far too hot for us. The Cayenne Chocolate pepper is just hot enough for our tastes. We found this variety at Semi Strani in Italy. We assume it’s the cross between Red Cayenne and Thunder Cacho Brown made by Innovation Acre (Tyler Farms, California). According to them, the variety is not completely stabilized. We isolated plants in 2024 and used these seeds in 2025 for our production. We’ve noticed very good uniformity on our side.

Here’s a short video of a Chocolate Cayenne Pepper tasting by a pepper fan: Chocolate Cayenne Pepper Review and Tasting. At the end of the video, he talks about putting it on pizza. Great idea!
