Japanese Pie squash
Cucurbita argyrosperma
Large, elongated squash weighing 12 to 20 pounds. Green, streaked with orange when ripe. Light, yellow-orange flesh, good flavor, not fibrous. Perfect for soups or baking. Also known as Nippon Island or Alphabet squash because of the markings on the seeds. 100 days to maturity.
Full sun, well-drained, rich soil. Direct sowing after risk of frost or indoor sowing 2 to 5 weeks before. Protect young plants from insects at the beggining of the season. 1.5 cm deep. 60 cm between plants.
Germination: 80% in November 2024
