Description
Buckwheat Red-flowered
Fagopyrum esculentum
Annual. Small pink flowers fading to dark reddish-pink. Very long-lasting bloom from July until frost. Attracts pollinators. Large, bushy plant, up to 1.50 m high and as wide. The drooping stems take root in contact with the soil. Edible, highly nutritious seeds. Native to the Himalayas. Find out more about “The village of red buckwheat”.
Full sun, part shade. Well drained soil. Sow indoors 2-4 weeks before last frost. Transplant when temperature is above 10°C. 1 cm deep. 30 cm between plants.
Germination: 90% in November 2025
