Description

Wild teasel
Dipsacus sylvestris

Biennial. 30 cm rosette of leaves in the first year. In its 2nd year, the plant develops long, spiny stems with prickly purple flowers. Blooms in June and July, but remains ornamental thereafter. Holds water in the hollows of leaves, forming insect traps and natural watering holes for birds. 1.50 meter high. Hardiness Zone 3.

Full sun to part shade. Well-drained soil, poor or rich. Indoor sowing in April or direct sowing in early spring or autumn. Sow on the surface. 40 cm between plants.

Germination: 72% in November 2024 (without stratification)
