Bean Japanese Cherry<\/strong>
\nPhaseolus vulgaris<\/em><\/p>\n

Dry bean. Pole bean, needs a 2 meter stake. Small, round, dark purple-red beans. Excellent dry or fresh shell. Small green pods, rapidly turning pale yellow with a hint of pink at the shelling stage. Very productive. Old variety known since 1860.<\/p>\n

Full sun, well drained soil. Direct sowing after the last frost or indoor sowing 10 days before. 2 cm deep. 15 cm between plants.<\/p>\n

Germination: 99% in December 2025<\/strong>
\nEcological seeds produced at Catherine’s Ornamental Garden.<\/em><\/p>\n

Note<\/strong>
\nFound in 2024 on the De Tuinen Van Weldadigheid<\/a> website in the Netherlands. We found it there only because they are the only ones to call it by its French name. <\/p>\n

The seeds are slightly larger and darker than Coco rose de la Meuse and smaller than True Red Cranberry. Described almost everywhere as having yellow pods. This is a strange piece of information: when young, they are green. They turn yellow at the semi-dry stage, like all beans. The pods fade as they mature, turning beige when dry. <\/p>\n

Its German name is Steirische Kirschbohne. It is more easily found under this name in Europe than under the French name. <\/p>\n
