Heliopsis Burning Hearts
Heliopsis helianthoides var. scabra
Perennial. Single or semi-double flower, two-tone yellow and orange. Dark green foliage and purple stems. 1.20 m tall and 60 cm wide. Doesn’t need staking. Long flowering season from July to September. Attracts pollinators and birds. Excellent cut flowers. Deer-resistant. Hardiness Zone 3.
Full sun to part shade. Well-drained, poor to rich soil. Can flower the first year with early sowing. Direct sow after last frost or sow indoors 8 to 12 weeks before. Cold stratification for 2 to 4 weeks may improve germination. 5 mm deep. 40 cm between plants.
Burning Hearts is a nativar derived from heliopsishelianthoides, a perennial plant native to North America.
Germination: 85% without stratification in November 2025
