Description

Castor bean
Ricinus communis

Annual. 1 to 3 metres high, sometimes more. May need support. Large purple palmate leaves turning dark green. Numerous red ball-shaped capsules. Toxic plants and seeds.

Full sun, part shade. Well-drained, rich soil. Sow indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. 3 cm deep. 60 cm between plants. Germinates in 7 to 21 days at 21-25°C.
