Poor man’s orchid
Schizanthus pinnatus

Annual. Small white, pink or purple flowers, shaped like mini orchids. 40 to 60 cm high. Blooms in July and August. Excellent cut flowers. Native to Chile. Also known as butterfly flower.

Full sun to part shade. Well drained soil. Direct sowing after the last frost or indoors 4 to 6 weeks before. 5 mm deep. 30 cm between plants.

Germination: 70% in December 2025
