Description

Peanut Valencia
Arachis hypogaea

Small red peanuts. Plant 50 cm tall. Valencia is an early type of peanut that usually produces well in hardiness zone 4. Can be grown in a container. Dry them quickly after harvesting to avoid mildew. Peanuts can develop a toxin (aflatoxin). Do not eat peanuts that are stained or blackened. Freshly harvested peanuts have a bitter taste, which improves with time, drying and cooking. +100 days to maturity.

Full sun, well-drained, sandy soil. Sow indoors 4 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Transplant when temperature is above 10°C. 2.5 cm deep. 30 cm apart. Germinates at 25-30°C. Protect from frost at the end of the season and harvest as late as possible or when plants dry out.

Germination: 99% in January 2026
Ecological seeds produced at Catherine’s Ornamental Garden.
