Valencia Peanut
Arachis hypogaea
Small red peanuts. Plant 50 cm tall. Valencia is an early type of peanut that usually produces well in hardiness zone 4. Can be grown in a container. Dry them quickly after harvesting to avoid mildew. Peanuts can develop a toxin (aflatoxin). Do not eat peanuts that are stained or blackened. Freshly harvested peanuts have a bitter taste, which improves with time, drying and cooking. +100 days to maturity.
Full sun, well-drained, sandy soil. Sow indoors 4 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Transplant when temperature is above 10°C. 2.5 cm deep. 30 cm apart. Germinates at 25-30°C. Protect from frost at the end of the season and harvest as late as possible or when plants dry out.
