Carrot Cosmic Surprise
Daucus carota sativus

A carrot with purple skin and bright yellow, sometimes orange, interior. Wonderful sweet flavor. Juicy. Excellent for eating raw, cooking or freezing. Danvers type. Harvest between 10 and 15 cm in length. 60 days to maturity.

Full sun. Loose, well-drained soil. To facilitate seed germination, place 1 or 2 cm of potting soil on the surface before sowing. Direct sowing from early May to early July (zone 4). 5 mm deep. Thin to 6 cm. We recommend growing under netting to avoid damage caused by carrot fly larvae. How to prevent carrot fly.

The Cosmic Surprise carrot is a selection project by Catherine’s Ornamental Garden, started in 2021. Derived from the Cosmic Purple carrot, our aim is to obtain a purple-skinned carrot with a yellow interior. The generation of seeds currently on sale corresponds to around 70%.
