Lettuce Du Bon Jardinier
Lactuca sativa

Butterhead lettuce. Can become very large. Pale green leaves, slightly tinged with red, excellent flavor. Slow to set seed. Highly resistant to heat and cold. An old variety from the Rhineland (western Germany), also known as Rhenania.

Full sun, part shade. Well drained soil. Direct sowing from 6 weeks before last frost date. 6 mm deep. 30 cm between plants.

Germination: 97% in December 2025

Note
I bought this lettuce from Baumaux in 2015. It is similar to White Boston, but larger. The leaves are both tender and crunchy.
