Carrot Royale Chantenay
Daucus carota sativus
Dark orange, conical-shaped carrot. Sweeter when harvested after the first frosts. Ideal for autumn harvesting and storage. About 15 cm long by 6 cm in diameter, but can become very large. Heirloom variety from France. 70 days to maturity.
Full sun. Loose, well-drained soil. To facilitate seed germination, place 1 or 2 cm of potting soil on the surface before sowing. Direct sowing from early May to early July (zone 4). 5 mm deep. Thin to 9 cm. We recommend growing under netting to avoid damage caused by carrot fly larvae. How to prevent carrot fly.
