Description
Tomate Red Pear Abruzzese
Solanum lycopersicum
Large, pear-shaped red tomato. Very fleshy, few seeds. Exceptional flavor. Perfect for sauces, preserves, juices and bruschetta. An ancient variety native to Italy, also known as the Abruzzo pear tomato. Extremely productive. Late (zone 4 and +). Indeterminate. 85 days to maturity.
Full sun, well drained and rich soil. Sow indoors 8 to 10 weeks before last frost. 5 mm deep. 60 cm between plants.
Germination: 80% in November 2025
Ecological seeds produced at Catherine’s Ornamental Garden.
Note
The bulk of the harvest is from mid-September to late October, a little late for our zone 4. Grow in full sun, as shade will delay ripening. This is a very versatile all-rounder. It’s excellent for eating raw and excellent for processing. The sauce will be a little runnier than with Italian tomatoes like San Marzano or Oroma, but it will be really tasty. When I found this variety in 2019, I said to myself that if I could only grow one tomato, this would be it!
