Description
Tomato Carlton
Solanum lycopersicum
Attractive little red tomato, 4 to 6 cm in diameter, juicy and tasty. Plant height 1.2 m, good disease resistance. An old variety developed in Ottawa in 1952. Resulting from a cross between the Marglobe and Abel varieties. Very rare. Semi-determinate. 70 days to maturity.
Sow indoors from late March to mid-April. 6 mm deep. Transplant when there is no longer any risk of frost. 50 cm between plants.
Germination: 86% in November 2025
Ecological seeds produced at Catherine’s Ornamental Garden.
Note
I bought this tomato from Cottage Gardener in 2015. The following year it was completely unobtainable. After growing it 2 summers to test it, I decided it was pretty good and worth saving. It’s similar to Maskabec, except that the plants are a little larger and the harvest is more staggered and longer.
