Description
Ground cherry Geltower
Physalis pruinosa
Round fruits, 1.5 cm in diameter, orange-yellow when very ripe. Excellent flavor. Plant 60 cm high and over 1 meter wide. 75 days to maturity. A selection from German permaculturist Siegfried Tatschl.
Full sun, well-drained, rich soil. Sow indoors 8 to 14 weeks before last frost. Transplant when temperature is above 10°C. Requires heat for germination, ±30°C. 6 mm deep. 60 cm between plants.
Germination: 97% in November 2025

Note
A beautiful ground cherry variety, as tasty and productive as Cossack Pineapple. In 2024, we put it into production because it was supposed to produce bigger fruit and nice, upright, taller plants, which can be interesting for easier harvesting. But with our way of doing things, we haven’t seen any real difference between Geltower and Cossack Pineapple. Perhaps we need to prune the plants’ secondary branches at the start of the season? Of course, we’ll keep on testing…
