Description
Spiked Liatris
Liatris spicata
Perennial. 1 to 2 meters high. Big spike of small purple flowers. Native to North America. Also known as Kansas Feather. Does not bloom the first year. Attracts butterflies. Makes an excellent cut flower. Hardiness Zone 3.
Full sun to part shade. Rich, well-drained soil. Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last frost or directly outdoors in early summer. 5 mm deep. 30 cm between plants. Cold stratification for 4 to 8 weeks can improve germination.
Germination: 62% in January 2025 (without stratification)
