Note
We received the Hâtif de Châteaurenard black bean from our friend Michel Lachaume in 2017, straight from a seed bank. Only a few seeds germinated, but that was enough to see its value and be able to put it into production with fresh seeds the following season.
Variety listed in the 1926 catalog of Lucien Joseph Clause of Brétigny sur Orge, France. It reads: “Highly esteemed in Provence for its earliness and hardiness, this variety produces an abundance of pretty, arched, fleshy pods that are very suitable for shipping.”
