Squash Honeynut
Cucurbita moschata
Small butternut squash, 1 to 1.5 lb (12 to 16 cm long). Typical butternut shape, but smaller. Dark beige when ripe. Excellent sweetness. Non-fibrous orange flesh, sweet potato texture. Thin skin, easy to peel. Can also be harvested immature when skin is green and cooked like zucchini. Creeping plant from 1.5 to 2 meters. Good resistance to powdery mildew. Variety developed in the 2000s by Michael Mazourek of Cornell University (NY) and commercialized in 2015. 110 days to maturity.
Full sun, well-drained, rich soil. Direct sowing after the last frost or indoor sowing 2 to 5 weeks before. Protect young plants from insects. 2 cm deep. 60 cm between plants.
Germination: 99% in December 2025
