Tobacco Roulette mix
Nicotiana alata

Annual. Ornamental tobacco with a dwarf plant 50 cm high. Slightly fragrant at dusk. Mixture of red, mauve, dark pink, pale pink or white flowers. Intense blooming from July to September. Growing it is a gift for the eyes and pollinators. Well adapted to container gardening.

Full sun, well-drained soil, rich or poor. Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last frost. Transplant when temperature is above 10°C. Protect young plants from wind at the beginning of the season. Sow on the surface: seeds need light to germinate. 30 cm between plants. Re-seeds itself. Early, also works with direct seeding.

We really love ornamental tobacco for its color, scent and attractiveness to pollinators. For some time, we’ve been looking for a reproducible variety similar to Sensation mix, but with dwarf plants for borders or container growing. Roulette mix tobacco is sold everywhere as a 2nd generation (F2) hybrid. This piqued our curiosity: F1 hybrids are often seen, but F2? Why is that? We grew it in 2024 and saved the seeds, which we replanted in 2025. As we didn’t see any difference with the F2, we’re offering it as a reliable, reproducible mix that’s beautiful and deserves its place in the ornamental garden.
