Kikuza squash
Cucurbita moschata

Small, beige butternut squash, 2 to 3 kg. Flattened, ribbed shape. Non-fibrous orange flesh, good flavour. Can also be harvested immature (pale green) and cooked like zucchinis. An ancient variety originally from Japan, introduced to the USA in 1927. 90 days to maturity.

Full sun, well-drained, rich soil. Direct sowing after the last frost or indoor sowing 2 to 5 weeks before. Protect young plants from insects. 2 cm deep. 60 cm between plants.
