Pea St-Hubert
Pisum sativum var. vulgare
Delicious green soup pea. Climbing plant, need a support of 1,50 meter. Early and very productive. It can be harvested fresh, like shelling peas, it will not be very sweet, but very tasty. An European heirloom variety brought to Quebec in the 17th century by settlers.
Full sun to part shade. Sow directly outdoors in May, 2 cm deep and 5 cm apart.
Germination: 98% in December 2025
Ecological seeds produced at Catherine’s Ornamental Garden.
Note
St-Hubert is the saint who watches over hunters in France. It is assumed that the recipe for real pea soup made with St-Hubert peas was made from a broth of game carcasses and bones.
