Loofah squash
Luffa aegyptiaca
The famous squash that produces vegetable sponges. Edible when very young. Climbing plant, needs at least 1.20 m support. Late, ±200 days to maturity. Requires a lot of heat. Growing luffa successfully in a cold climate.
Full sun, well-drained, rich soil. Sow indoors 8 weeks before last frost. Transplant when temperature is above 10°C. 1cm deep. 30 cm between plants.
Germination: 99% in December 2023
