Ground Cherry Pygmy
Physalis minima
Annual. 50 cm to 1 meter in height and as much in width. Harvest when the capsules change color and the fruits are yellow. Unique flavor, acid and sweet with a note of caramel. Can be eaten raw or cooked. Excellent in jam. Productive. Native to tropical forests.
Full sun, well-drained, rich soil. Sow indoors 8 to 14 weeks before last frost. Transplant when temperature is above 10°C. Requires heat for germination, ±30°C. Germinates in 7-10 days at 25-30°C. 1-2 mm deep. 60 cm between plants.
