Description
Bean Harwig’s Heirloom Belgium
Phaseolus vulgaris
Climbing green filet bean. Needs a stake of 1.50 m or more. Small 10 cm beans, delicious and always stringless. White beans of excellent quality, to be harvested dry or semi-dry. Very productive. Originally from Belgium, cultivated in the United States since 1900. Curated by Lisa Von Saunder of Amishland Heirloom Seeds (Pensylvania, Usa). Very rare. 60 days to maturity.
Full sun, well drained soil. Direct sowing after the last frost or indoor sowing 10 days before. 2 cm deep. 15 cm between plants.
Germination: 99% in December 2025
Ecological seeds produced at Catherine’s Ornamental Garden.
Note
I found this variety in 2011 on the Amishland Heirloom Seeds website (which ceased to exist in 2022). It’s an extraordinary bean! Even when the pods start to get paler and bumpy because the beans are developed, the strings are still absent. And when it comes to flavor, you can’t beat it. If I could take only one bean to a desert island, it would be this one!

Une superbe découverte! La description est vraiment fidèle. Ils sont très bon au goût, légèrement sucré. C’est vraiment un régal. Très productif également! On adore. Merci!

Absolument délicieux! Très prolifique, et facile à cultiver. Je le fais en tipi avec 3 smart pots. À refaire à l’été 2023, pour ma 3e saison, c’est sûr!
