Dwarf Blue Curled kale
Brassica oleracea var. acephala
Blue-green, finely curled leaves. Compact plant, 45 to 75 cm high and as wide. Does not require support. Grows well in container. Can overwinter in hardiness zone 5 and above, and will produce flowers in its 2nd year. In autumn, the plants can be brought indoors, where they will continue to produce throughout the winter. When placed in the dark, the leaves turn almost white with a sweeter flavor. A heirloom variety introduced before 1865 and popular ever since. 60 days to maturity.
Full sun, part shade, well-drained, rich soil. Direct sowing or transplanting from 3 weeks before the last frost. Sow indoors 4 to 6 weeks before transplanting. 6mm deep. 30 cm between plants.
