Description
Bean Lazy Housewife
Phaseolus vulgaris
Green, fleshy, stringless pole bean. Harvest between 15 and 20 cm. Very good flavor. Need a 2-meter support. The white beans are excellent fresh shell or dry. One of the oldest documented beans (1802). Very prolific, easy and quick to pick, hence the name “lazy wife”. 70 days to maturity.
Full sun, well drained soil. Sow directly outdoors in early June at 2 cm depth and 15 cm apart.
Germination: 99% in December 2025
Ecological seeds produced at Catherine’s Ornamental Garden.
Note
A bean I’ve been growing since 2014. Every year, there’s a trellis of this bean at the entrance of the garden, every year I put some in the freezer, both fresh and shelled, so we can eat them all winter long…. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s my 2nd favorite green bean. And I’m not a lazy wife or anything!
