Note
In the spring of 2019, seeds of this cucumber were offered to me by an acquaintance who is originally from New Brunswick. She told me that the seeds came from an elderly couple living in a small road on the edge of the village of Neguac. It’s a cucumber they’ve been growing for over fifty years, and they don’t know its name. They describe it as a large cucumber that stays green for a long time. It has an excellent taste and is good for pickling.

The few seeds I received germinated well and the seedlings were vigorous. To avoid cross-pollination with the other cucumber varieties in production that year, I transplanted it far away, in a poorly drained, acidic plot in the shade of tall spruce trees… In the end, despite the poor growing conditions, it miraculously produced many beautiful and excellent cucumbers!

On November 27, 2019, the Robichaud cucumber appears in our catalog. Now Neguac isn’t just famous for its elephant 😉

Many thanks to our friend Alex Guérin of Prendre Racine, who has been producing Robichaud cucumber seeds for us since 2021. Thanks to him, we’ve always had inventory available for you of this heritage cucumber. We’ve also taken advantage of the cucumber production plot freed up each year to work on other exciting projects, such as the Three White Sheet cucumber and the Quebec Green cucumber.
