Three white sheet cucumber
Cucumis sativus

White cucumber, long and thin with few seeds. Excellent flavour, never bitter. Harvest between 15-20 cm in length. Excellent for eating fresh but also for pickling. Very productive. Creeping plant of 2 meters. It is also well suited for treillised cultivation. Native to China. The name ‘Three white sheet’ is a Google translation.

Full sun. Well-drained, moist, rich soil. Direct sowing after the last frost or indoor sowing 2 to 5 weeks before. Protect young plants from insects at the beggining of the season. 1.5 cm deep. 40 cm between plants.

Three white leaves cucumber seeds were purchased from Ekzotomat in Ukraine at the end of January 2022, just before the Russian invasion. There are several white cucumbers, mainly pickles like Boothby’s Blond, which we’ve been offering for several years. But like this one, long and thin, we’d never seen anything like it. We grew it in 2022 and tested our seeds in 2023. There’s still some selection to be done: there was a plant that gave shorter cucumbers in our plot. But we’re happy to see that it’s uniform enough to offer it as a new release for the 2024 season and introducing it to North America.

As for Ekzotomat, we’re not sure what’s happened to them. They are located in the Kharkiv region in eastern Ukraine, very close to the border. A few months after ordering our seeds, their website became non-functional. It’s a tiny family farm like ours. We hope they’re safe.
