Squash Butterpaq mix
Cucurbita moschata

Small butternut squash, beige when ripe. Various shapes, weighing 1.5 to 3 pounds (6 to 10 cm in diameter by 12 to 18 cm long). Dark orange, sweet flesh. Smooth, non-fibrous texture. Easy to peel. Eats like zucchini when harvested young. Very early. Selected by our friend René Paquet over the past 15 years from a mixture of several butternut varieties. Creeping plant, with stems of 2 to 4 meters. 80 days.

Full sun, rich and well drained soil. Direct sowing after the last frost or indoor sowing 2 to 5 weeks before. Protect young plants from insects at the beggining of the season. 2 cm deep. 60 cm between plants.

Germination: 96% in December 2025
Ecological seeds produced at Catherine’s Ornamental Garden.

Note
We were blown away by the earliness of this Butterpaq mix squash. They were ripe before the end of August, 2 to 3 weeks earlier than the Waltham Butternut! The shapes vary a little, but they’re all small and the flesh is always dark orange, not fibrous, with an excellent flavor. René continues his selection, the aim being to achieve uniformity in shape, while retaining its earliness, good taste and good shelf life.
