Description

Bean Castandel
Phaseolus vulgaris

Bush green snap bean, round, slender and stringless, 14 to 16 cm long. Excellent flavor. Well suited for freezing. Easy to harvest. Good resistance to diseases. Productive plant, 45 to 60 cm tall. Improvement of the Contender variety.

Full sun, well drained soil. Direct sowing after the last frost or indoor sowing 10 days before. 2 cm deep. 15 cm between plants.

Germination: 99% in December 2025
Ecological seeds produced at Catherine’s Ornamental Garden.

Note
A variety I found in 2016 at Baumaux in France. It inherited the good taste and productivity of Contender. But what I particularly like about Castandel beans is that the plants have a more upright and less messy vegetation, which makes harvesting easier and quicker. The beans are upright and quite firm, and contain less water, making them even better for freezing.

Je sème ces haricots depuis plusieurs années et je n’ai jamais été déçue. Les haricots sont délicieux et pas trop gros.
