Zapallito del Tronco squash
Cucurbita maxima
A small, round, dark-green squash that is eaten raw or cooked, like a zucchini or a pattypan. Green, avocado-like flesh. Excellent flavour and creamy texture. Bushy plant from 1 metre to over 2 metres long in rich soil. Very productive. Mature fruits become extremely hard and are edible cooked but of no taste interest. Originally from Argentina. 48 days (immature).
Full sun. Well drained and rich soil. Direct sowing after the last frost or indoor sowing 2 to 5 weeks before. 2 cm deep. 50 cm between plants.
Germination: 99% in December 2023
